Visit to Athens, Greece
4‐5 June 2018

The Under Secretary for Transport and Housing, Dr Raymond So Wai-man, visited Athens, Greece from 4 to 5 June 2018 to promote Hong Kong as an international maritime centre and reinforce the relationship with the Greek maritime community.

During the visit, Dr So officiated the opening ceremony of the Hong Kong Pavilion and introduced Hong Kong’s strength as an international maritime centre at the Posidonia 2018 on 4 June. Posidonia is the world's largest biennial international shipping exhibition which attracts over 2,010 exhibitors from 92 countries in 2018. During the visit, Dr So also met with various government representatives, including the Ambassador of Indonesia and the Cypriot Deputy Minister of Shipping, to exchange views on the development of the global maritime industry and explore cooperation opportunities between Hong Kong and these two places.

On 5 June, Dr So met with the Union of Greek Shipowners, the Piraeus Container Terminal and Costamare Inc. to exchange views on maritime-related policies and promote Hong Kong’s role as a “super-connector” between China and the rest of the world. Dr So also visited the Piraeus Container Terminal to learn about their latest development and operation.

Through the meetings and gathering during the two-day visit, Hong Kong’s status as an international maritime centre and our relationship with the Greek maritime community were reinforced.
