Maritime and Aviation Internship Scheme - Cocktail Reception 2018 and Container Terminal Visit
July 2018

Maritime and Aviation Training Fund (MATF) enters into its fifth year. For the Maritime and Aviation Internship Scheme (Internship Scheme) under the MATF, more than 60 companies participated in the Scheme this year, offering nearly 780 internship places. For students who have joined the Internship Scheme and practised in various maritime-related companies, apart from taking part in the Maritime and Aviation Internship Scheme Cocktail Reception (Reception) held on 20 July 2018, they also visited the Hong Kong Kwai Tsing Container Terminal (KTCT) on 30 July 2018.

This year's Reception was held at the Hong Kong Maritime Museum. The Secretary for Transport and Housing, Mr Frank Chan Fan, officiated at the Reception where he exchanged views on the development and prospects of the maritime and aviation sectors with students participating in the Internship Scheme as well as stakeholders from the maritime and aviation sectors. Students also tapped the opportunities to share their internship experiences with representatives from the Hong Kong Maritime and Port Board and educational institutions.

About 50 students joined the visit to KTCT on 30 July 2018. Through yard tour, control tower visit, port model visit and demonstration of the remote control system for rubber-tyred gantry cranes, students could understand more about the operations of the world-class container terminal.

By participating in the Internship Scheme, students can gain exposure to the wide spectrum of career opportunities, allowing them to better understand the career prospects of various positions.
