Maritime and Aviation Internship Scheme - Cocktail Reception 2019, Visits to the Hongkong United Dockyards Limited and Government Dockyard

The running of Maritime and Aviation Training Fund (MATF) entered its sixth year in 2019. More than 70 companies participated in the Maritime and Aviation Internship Scheme (Internship Scheme) under the MATF in 2019, offering nearly 900 internship places. Students who participating in the Internship Scheme and practised in various maritime-related companies, apart from taking part in the Maritime and Aviation Internship Scheme Cocktail Reception (Reception) held on 19 July 2019, they also visited the Hongkong United Dockyards Limited (HUD) and the Government Dockyard (GD) on 16 and 23 August 2019 respectively.

The Reception was held at the Hong Kong Maritime Museum. The host, Mr Joseph Lai Yee Tak, the Permanent Secretary for Transport and Housing (Transport) gave a speech at the Reception. He also shared views on the opportunity and development of the maritime and aviation sectors in Hong Kong with students participating in the Internship Scheme as well as stakeholders from the maritime and aviation sectors. Students also took the chance to share their fruitful internship experiences with the representatives from the Hong Kong Maritime and Port Board, participating companies and educational institutions.

Around 20 students joined the visits to HUD and GD on 16 and 23 August 2019 respectively. Through the yard tours, students could explore more about the operations of a commercial and the Government Dockyards.

Through the Internship Scheme, participating students can gain firsthand experience, explore the latest technology and development of the industries, enhance their exposure to the wide spectrum of career opportunities, allowing them to better understand the career prospects of various positions in the industries.
