Maritime and Aviation Internship Scheme - Visit to the Government Dockyard and Boat Tour 2021

The running of Maritime and Aviation Training Fund (MATF) entered its eighth year in 2021. 55 companies participated in the Maritime and Aviation Internship Scheme (MAIS) under the MATF this year, offering over 280 internship places. Students not only practiced in various maritime-related companies, but also were given a chance to visit the Government Dockyard (GD) on 6 August 2021 and take part in the MAIS Boat Tour 2021 on 20 August 2021.
Around 50 students joined the visit to GD and the MAIS Boat Tour 2021 on 6 and 20 August 2021 respectively. Through the dockyard visit and boat tour, students could explore more about the operations of the Government Dockyard, as well as the ports and maritime facilities of Hong Kong.
The MAIS Boat Tour 2021 was held on a nostalgic vehicular ferry setting off from North Point Vehicular Ferry Pier. The ferry toured around various Hong Kong’s ports and maritime facilities and docked at North Point Ferry Pier. The honorable guest, Mr Frank Chan Fan, JP, Secretary for Transport and Housing gave an opening speech at the Boat Tour. He shared insights into the latest development and opportunities of the maritime sector in Hong Kong, and also encouraged students to share their views and feelings. Representatives from the Hong Kong Maritime sector also took the chance to share their own professional knowledge and experiences, including local vessel trade, maritime insurance and maritime law, with students.
Through the MAIS, participating students can gain firsthand experience, explore the latest development of the industry, and enhance their exposure to the wide spectrum of career opportunities allowing them to better understand the career prospects of various professions in the maritime industry.
