Evening Seminar on “Problems associated with Sale and Purchase of Ship and Building a Universal Ship Trading Platform (“USP”)

Where:No. 1 Conference Room, 37/F., China Merchants Tower, Shun Tak Centre (map)

Attachment:evening seminar on 7 March 2017.doc

Facing a mushroom of Fintech innovations in online trading nowadays, can we trade ships on the Internet? The answer is positive. It will bring down trading cost and operation cost substantially. Moreover, it can avoid most disputes arising from ambiguous terms. Paradoxically, these terms are implanted by both parties (often represented by brokers) with an original intent to complete a deal. These implantations have always transformed a well-tested standard contract into distorted terms making room for arguments. One primary objective of the USP is to avoid or at least minimize such ambiguity.

Capt. Chu will explain the idea in more details in the seminar, by quoting some contractual terms and illustrating operational problems commonly encountered in the existing system. Questions (on sale and purchase) as well as challenges to the idea of USP will be discussed.

10th Annual Hong Kong Ship Finance Forum

Where:Renaissance Harbour View Hotel, Hong Kong (map)

Attachment:MMHongKong 2017 Flyer.pdf

The 10th Marine Money Hong Kong Ship Finance Forum will be held on 6th April 2017.

For ten years, Marine Money has chronicled the developments in Hong Kong shipping and ship finance. To mark its 10th Anniversary in Hong Kong, this year’s Marine Money's Ship Finance Forum will discuss, amongst other issue, the future vision for Hong Kong shipping, how Hong Kong can capitalise on China’s far-reaching Belt and Road project, why the Hong Kong capital markets remain an opportunity for raising finance in Asia and how Hong Kong continues to act as a superconductor between China and the rest of the world.

Brokers and analysts will provide predictions of what is in store for 2017 and how to identify the best opportunities. It is often challenging markets that give rise to new opportunities and entrepreneurial initiatives that, through calculated but ambitious decisions, lay the ground work for the next best thing. Hong Kong remains a resilient pocket of savvy shipowners, ship managers, financiers, accountants, lawyers, brokers and investors, and we are confident that the ‘can-do’ attitude and perseverance that is the cornerstone of Hong Kong’s spirit, will see Hong Kong shipping once again thrive in these volatile markets.
