Visit to Denmark and Norway
11‐15 March 2019
The Secretary for Transport and Housing and Chairman of the Hong Kong Maritime and Port Board (HKMPB), Mr Frank Chan Fan led a delegation to visit Denmark and Norway from 11 to 15 March 2019. The major objectives of the visits are to establish connections with the Danish and Norwegian maritime industries, promote Hong Kong’s quality high value-added maritime services, and facilitate the grasp of the latest sustainable shipping initiatives in the Nordic region.
Comprising 16 members of the HKMPB and one industry representative, the delegation has taken part in a total of 15 meetings, gatherings and/or vessel visits in three cities, viz. Copenhagen, Oslo and Bergen.
To raise Hong Kong’s profile as an international maritime centre, a seminar-cum-luncheon titled “Hong Kong: Your Trusted Maritime Partner”; and a Chinese New Year seminar-cum-reception were held in Copenhagen, Denmark and Oslo, Norway respectively. Both promotional events were jointly organised by the HKMPB, the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC), the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office, London (London ETO), and respective trade associations, i.e. the Denmark-Hong Kong Trade Association and the Norway-Hong Kong Chamber of Commerce.
During the five-day visit, all meeting participants affirmed Hong Kong's uniqueness and potentials in the maritime development of the Asia-Pacific region, particularly in view of the promulgation of the Outline Development Plan of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Development, under which Hong Kong’s main objective is to entrench our status as an international maritime centre through the development of high-end maritime services.
The SAR Government shall continue to work closely with the maritime industry in a bid to serve as a “facilitator” and “promoter” supporting Danish and Norwegian shipping enterprises to tap into the Mainland and Asian markets.
